It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s…

Superman & Supergirl!

Superheroes 10-23-11 (3)

My mom made Isaac and Gracie the cutest superhero capes for their birthdays.  They are reversible, so depending on their mood they can be Superman and Supergirl, or Spiderman and Princessgirl.  On this particular day Superman and Supergirl were running around the house “fixing things and cleaning things” (my kind of superheroes!).

Unfortunately, their idea of fixing and cleaning is to put everything in one big pile.

Good thing they are cute!

Oh well, I was able to convince them to use their super powers to put everything back when they were done “fixing and cleaning”.

I’m glad our home is protected by this fierce duo of super powers.

Occupy Family Room

I wonder what Isaac and Grace are protesting?

Occupy Family Room 10-22-11 (2)

Whatever it is, they sure like using their new tents!  They filled our family room for too many days but they had so much fun in them.  The tents were a garage sale score along with matching sleeping bags and camp chairs.  Perfect birthday presents for three year olds!

Happy Birthday Isaac & Grace!

We had a great day celebrating Isaac and Grace.  We didn’t have anything planned besides a family party in the evening, so we just let the day happen.  They woke up to balloons in the family room, which they were so excited about.  I love that something so simple can make them so happy!

When I started making them breakfast I realized that we were out of their favorite cereal.  I had a box of Fruit Loops that had been out in the food storage room for months waiting for some special occasion, I figured this was it.  They were thrilled to have such a yummy breakfast.  It got our morning off to a sugary start!  (which I am sure is to blame for the meltdowns we had later that morning…)

Isaac & Grace's 3rd Birthday 10-21-11 (6)Grace saw a box of Fruit Loops at the store the other day and got all excited and said it was their “birthday cereal”.  Hmmm….maybe a new tradition has been born!

They needed baths that morning and as I put them in I remembered something I saw online. I added some glowsticks I had hanging around the house to the water and turned off the lights.  Isaac and Grace loved the effect and played in the bathtub for a long time!  They called it their “birthday bath”.

I made birthday crowns for their special day.  I knew Gracie would love hers, but I figured Isaac wouldn’t really care about it his.  I was wrong, they both loved them and even insisted on wearing them to the library for storytime.

We had a fun little three year old photo shoot.  It is next to impossible to get both of them looking at the camera with a smile (they are both in the cheesy smile phase), but we got some cute ones that really show their personalities.

I especially like the pictures that show their sweet relationship with each other.

That evening we celebrated with family and a pizza dinner.  I had hoped to make one cake for both of them again this year, but I made the mistake of asking them what kind of cake they wanted.  Of course they both wanted something different.  Isaac immediately said he wanted a Cars cake and Grace chimed in with a princess cake request.  They were so set on it that I had to comply.  They turned out cute. And they were both thrilled with their own cake.

Next they opened presents.

Isaac was especially excited about his Lightning McQueen box full of Cars cars.  Grace was totally excited to have her own set of paints and new markers.  She also liked the felt make-up set I made for her.

Emma gave them the puppet theater she had made for them along with some cute monster puppets with interchangeable faces.  What a fun present!

It was a fun night celebrating our “babies”.  We’re so glad our family could party with us.

But we are especially glad Isaac and Grace have given us a reason to party!  Oh how we love them and are glad they are a part of our family.

Three Years Old!

Gracie the horse 9-21-11 cropped

Isaac and Grace are three!!  I find it hard to believe these happy, wonderful twin of ours are already three years old.  Oh how we love them.  They bring so much joy, happiness and craziness to our family.

They love each other, too.  It has been so much fun to see their friendship blossom lately.

They have become much more creative in their play, together and alone.

Both of them adore their big sister.  Emma is {almost} always happy to play with them and read them stories.

Isaac and Grace especially love it when Emma chases them.  They like to be captured and tickled and wrestled with.  Gracie can’t quite say the word capture, it comes out more like “cappage”.  It is so cute to hear her asking Emma to “cappage me!”.  Isaac could wrestle and play all day so he loves it when Emma indulges him, even when it ends with him in a straight jacket!

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not all butterflies and rainbows.  As much as they love to be with each other, they also fight plenty.  They are definitely typical siblings.  They also know how to bug Emma and can really push her buttons.  But for the most part they get along well.

Books and storytime are still favorites for both of them.  A trip to the library is a treat.  As always, I love to see them looking at books and reading stories to each other.

As much as they like to play together and do many of the same things, they still have their definite interests and distinct personalities.

Isaac & Grace cars & princesses 10-5-11

In no particular order, Isaac likes cars, trains, Legos, superheroes, construction vehicles, farm equipment, the color blue, and running fast like Lightning McQueen.

Isaac 6-7-11

He has the funniest facial expressions and cracks us up with the things he says.  For some reason he loves the words “chicken nuggets”, he says “Kachow” when he is particularly pleased with something, and says “what the heck” way more than we would like.  He is very sensitive and gives the best hugs and kisses.  He says he wants to be a missionary when he grows up and then, depending on the day, a worker, farmer, and/or train conductor.   When he wakes up in the morning he immediately wants to get dressed.  No lazing around in his pajamas for him!  We have been very impressed with his ability to know where we are in the car and how to get home.  He is still an expert whiner…

Guitar Hero 6-4-11 (1)

Gracie likes princesses, dolls, making pretend food, the colors pink and purple, organizing, and most of all coloring, painting and doing projects.  She is very good at coloring and can quite often be found at the table with a box of crayons, markers or colored pencils.  She loves to paint and asks me every day what project we are going to do.

Gracie coloring 10-23-11

She likes anything girlie and is always thrilled when Emma offers to paint her nails.  She likes to watch me cook and is content to sit on the counter next to me while I make lunch or dinner.  She also likes to sing and we love to hear her sweet little voice singing her favorite songs.  She is a charmer and loves to wave and smile and people.  She would rather be without clothes, or nakey nudey as she calls it, but when does get dressed she has a very strong opinion about what she wears.  She likes to look good and accessorize!  Gracie is extremely determined and independent.  That can be good and bad…

Grace & fingernail polish 9-15-11 (1)

There are no more diapers at our house.  As exciting as that is, I was sad to put away the basket of diapers that has been sitting in our family room the last three years.  They are growing up!  Thank goodness they don’t think they are too old for their cribs or naps.  They haven’t even tried to climb out of their cribs yet and I am happy to keep them in there.  They love to take naps and go down better at naptime than they do at bedtime these days!

Isaac & Grace hugs & kisses 10-5-11 (1)

One more thing of note.  Isaac and Grace are convinced they are going to marry each other.  They talk often of Gracie wearing a white dress and being a princess at the temple while Isaac will wear a coat (suite coat) and a striped tie.  Oh, they are so cute!

Three is a good age, it will be a fun year!

Ball Girl

The girls on Emma’s soccer team were able to be ball girls for a high school varsity soccer game.  Emma was really excited about it and had a great time.  They got to run out on the field with a member of the team and their names were announced along with the player names.

The girls spent the rest of the game behind the goals waiting for any errant balls.  They didn’t get a lot of ball girl action, but they got to see some good soccer playing.  All of us parents were hoping they took notes!   After the game they talked to the coach who assured them that the varsity win was due to the hustle of the ball girls.
