General Conference Weekend

April 2-3, 2016

One of our favorite two weekends of the year!  We started the Saturday morning session with cinnamon rolls…of course!

I love how excited the kids are to watch conference.  It’s something they look forward to!

The Jensen’s came down from Vancouver for the Priesthood session, so a bunch of moms and kids met at the church for a little party while the men went to Priesthood.  It was a beautiful night so most of the kids ended up outside.

A big game of boys against girls Red Rover was played.  It was a fun night!

My family came down for the Sunday sessions of conference.  We had our delicious brunch between sessions…of course!

We ended the night by playing games.

It really was a great weekend.  It’s always sad to see General Conference weekend come to end.  It is so nice to relax with family and to listen to uplifting and inspiring messages from prophets and apostles.  But we LOVED Elder Holland’s closing address and we were determined to not be afraid of tomorrow.  He said “Keep loving.  Keep trying.  Keep trusting.  Keep believing.  Keep growing. Heaven is cheering you on today, tomorrow, forever.”  What a great push to make the changes in our lives that were inspired by listening to General Conference.  A few weeks later we had our FHE General Conference review.

We put the new topic pictures up on our wall of prophets.  We are ready to continue studying and learning!

April Fool’s Day 2016

April 1, 2016

I played a good April Fool’s Day trick on the twins for breakfast this year.  I froze their cereal the night the before and then added a little fresh milk on the top that morning.  They had no idea their breakfast was frozen until they tried to dip their spoon in for the first bite.

It was pretty hilarious.  They were so confused at first, but then they started laughing as it dawned on them that it was April Fool’s Day.  This was the response I got after that:

I kept laughing to myself every time I thought about it that day!  For dinner we had our traditional Fool’s Dinner.  Unfortunately Lee had a stake meeting and Emma wasn’t home, so it was just me and the twins.  We made the best of it and still had fun.

But who wouldn’t have fun eating your food with your hands and drinking straight from the pitcher?  Happy April Fool’s Day!

Current Evans Events—March 2016

March started with a beautiful rainbow on our walk home from school on the afternoon of the 1st.  Spring!

I completely forgot about Dr. Seuss’ birthday.  Thankfully Grace was on top of things and she decorated in Dr. Seuss’ honor.  I did give the kids pink ink for dinner that night.

When we moved into our house the door leading from the garage into the house was filthy and really needed to be painted.  Nine years later I finally painted the door and the frame!

It is the door we use the most so I wanted it to be welcoming and inviting.  I chose a fun color and added some vinyl.  It looks so much better!  Especially when you see the before and after!

Oh how I love good friends and play dates.

Isaac got the first three Calendar Mysteries books in the A to Z Mysteries series for Christmas.  By the beginning of March he had read all 50 books in the series.  He read lots of other books during that time period as well.  He is a fast reader!  He enjoyed the mystery series and was happy to have read them all!

YW Camp prepartion, planning and (lots) of meetings were well underway in March.  I loved having Emma at many of those meetings.  The YCL group was a fun bunch and they were so wonderful to work with!  Emma has some good friends.

The only problem with having Emma at my camp meetings is that I lose my babysitter.  Lee always has stake meetings on the same night so I am usually scrambling for a place for the twins to go (or taking them with me which isn’t always fun).  LaLa was nice enough to watch them several times.  One time they watched Despicable Me.  The next day they drew LaLa some super cute minion pictures.

Also in March for camp, I went to Camp Alpine for a meeting with leaders from all the stakes who attend Camp Alpine.  We exchanged experiences and ideas which was wonderful.  Camp Alpine had also asked the amazing COPE leaders from our stake to present to us.  We are the only stake that uses the COPE courses to their full potential and they were hoping to give the other stakes some ideas of how they can be used.  It was fun to see Mollie, one of our fearless COPE leaders, having to do the trust fall herself.  Camp Alpine is so beautiful!

Isaac and Grace are always doing projects and experiments.  I’m not sure what they were doing in these pictures, but I remember it was some sort of science “experiment”.  I was watching safely from inside.

We got to go to the Great to Be Eight fireside in March.  It is hard to believe that the twins will be turning eight and getting baptized this year.  Both of them were so excited to learn about Activity Days and Cub Scouts.  Isaac is especially excited about starting scouts.  He has been anxiously waiting to turn eight and has been talking about Cub Scouts for months.  He was completely enthralled with the presentation and came home even more excited!  I just hope that enthusiasm lasts a long time!

We were in Arizona for all of Easter week so we didn’t do many of our usual traditions.  We did talk about the story and timeline of Easter, and we had Resurrection Rolls as treats for one FHE (thanks to my visiting teacher who bought the ingredients for me since the van was in the shop!).

Emma started going regularly to a new physical therapist in March to hopefully get some help with her swimmer shoulders issue.  She looked like a football player with her ice and stim set-up after her treatments!

Brenna and I decorated for the RS Birthday dinner the night before we left for Arizona.  We had a bee theme.

While were in Arizona Tenley was in Japan.  She brought home some Tim Tams which we ate with hot chocolate like she did on her mission.  So yummy!

She also brought kendamas home for Isaac and Grace.  They loved them and were wowed by the tricks we looked up on YouTube.  They are hard!

Right before we left for Arizona Emma finished up Drivers Ed.  She passed the class and the behind the wheel test which meant that she wouldn’t have to take the DMV driving test to get her license.  She jokingly told me that she thought she deserved a Burgerville shake for that accomplishment.  She didn’t get one.  One day after spring break I had to pick her up from school early for a PT appointment.  I surprised her with a shake.  I think it was just as much a treat for me as it was for her!  Love that Emma Mae!

The last day of March ended the month just as beautifully as it began.  This time it was with perfect weather and blue skies.  I was even persuaded to put aside a full to-do list and just sit outside with the twins after school.  It was glorious!

3-31-16 perfect day

Lee ended the month at a Blazers game with Matt, Troy & Tyler.  Their seats were super close.  Lee was obviously excited about that!
