April Fool’s Day 2016

April 1, 2016

I played a good April Fool’s Day trick on the twins for breakfast this year.  I froze their cereal the night the before and then added a little fresh milk on the top that morning.  They had no idea their breakfast was frozen until they tried to dip their spoon in for the first bite.

It was pretty hilarious.  They were so confused at first, but then they started laughing as it dawned on them that it was April Fool’s Day.  This was the response I got after that:

I kept laughing to myself every time I thought about it that day!  For dinner we had our traditional Fool’s Dinner.  Unfortunately Lee had a stake meeting and Emma wasn’t home, so it was just me and the twins.  We made the best of it and still had fun.

But who wouldn’t have fun eating your food with your hands and drinking straight from the pitcher?  Happy April Fool’s Day!

Fooled Ya!

April Fool’s Day fell right in the middle of Easter week.  It had nothing to do with Easter, but we still had to have our traditional Fool’s Dinner.  Emma invited her friend Lauryn over for dinner that night.  She was totally unsuspecting.

And she was a great sport.  Grace wasn’t sure about eating her spaghetti noodles and peaches without utensils.

Isaac was totally fine with it.

They all like it best when they get the drink without a cup.

For dessert we pulled our our BrownEEs.  Lauryn thought they were hilarious!

I was surprised that the twins didn’t remember this trick.  They were totally expecting real brownies and thought the brown E’s were pretty funny.

At first, then they got a little anxious about having real brownies!  Of course I had some hidden away.

We even took some BrownEEs to the Jensen’s that night.  They weren’t home so we dropped them on their front porch and texted them that there was a treat there for them.  We giggled the whole way home.  We fooled them!  We were nice and hid a plate of real brownies for them too.  Classic April Fool’s joke and I love it!

Fooled Ya!

As I made Emma’s lunch on April Fool’s Day morning I was trying to come up with a good trick. I remembered we had a full bag of Spree’s leftover from our trip.  So I carefully opened the bottom, took out the candy, filled the bag with sliced carrots, then glued the bag back together again.  I knew she would think she scored because she got a whole bag of candy in her lunch, but then she would be in for a surprise.  She was!  I totally fooled her and the kids at her lunch table got a good laugh too.  I was giggling about it all day.

For dinner that night we had our traditional Fool’s Dinner.  Our friend Autumn was staying with us while her parents were gone for a few days.  I thought Emma was going to die of embarrassment that we were going to have the dinner even though she was there.  She was mortified.

She warmed up, and Autumn loved it.  We all got good laughs as we ate our silly courses.  Grace’s first course didn’t include any food, just dishes.  Isaac had all food at once.  This is the only day of the year where I don’t mind slurping, eating with fingers, and drinking out of the pitcher.  So funny!

I was hosting book group that night and knew I needed to play a trick on the ladies who were coming.  I decided to serve “brownies”.  Emma really wanted to trick Autumn with it first, so we kept talking about the “brownies” for dessert.   We fooled Autumn!

I forgot that the twins were too young to remember when I pulled that trick on the family.  Isaac was very perplexed about it, but Grace threw a huge fit that they weren’t real brownies!  Here’s the blurry picture to prove her tantrum.  See Kristin, Grace and Avery must be related!

My book group friends loved the Brown E’s.  I had more on the plate for them and a few took some “brownies” home for their husbands.  Ha!  Don’t worry, I served a real dessert too.

I checked out some April Fool’s books from the library and then totally forgot about them.  I remembered the next day so we read them then.  All the books were pretty much lacking in the good plot department, except this one.  We loved it!

It was a silly day of foolishness at our house!

Dinner For Fools

I think Emma groaned when she saw what I had planned for dinner on April Fools Day.

She finally came around and had fun acting a little foolish with us.

For each course we drew a piece of paper that told us what we got to each and with what utensils, if any.

Sometimes we drew all food, sometimes all utensils, or sometimes weird combinations of things.  Our favorite was the drink without the cup.

General Conference Weekend

General Conference is a much anticipated event at our house.  We love to soak up the spirit of the talks and we like to have fun and eat good food as well.  We definitely talk General Conference up in the weeks leading up to the first weekend in April, so there is generally a lot of hype around it!  We had a General Conference FHE the Monday before, and it was cute to hear all that Isaac and Grace knew about it.  It is especially cute to hear them say the names of the members of the First Presidency.

We set up a projector in the playroom to watch Conference on this year.  Our Conference Tent turned into two separate tents which ended being a great idea.  Isaac and Grace stayed in their respective tents for the majority of the sessions they were awake for and they played and colored quietly in them.  They loved the connection to the people in the Book of Mormon who listened to King Benjamin in their tents, and we loved the quiet.  It was great!

This was the view I had of Emma through all four sessions.  She is such a good girl and took diligent notes.  I think she is starting to look forward to General Conference for more than just the cinnamon rolls for breakfast!

We hung up a picture of the General Authorities and encouraged Isaac and Grace to match the speaker to their picture.

And of course we got the Conference Cups out again.  I was really worried that they would be distracting and that Isaac and Grace would be whining for candy the whole time, but they surprised us.  We gave them each a little bag of candy to munch on in their tents which kept them happy and they didn’t seem to notice that Emma was dipping into the buckets throughout the sessions.  Emma wrote the words on the buckets this year and she was very strategic about it.  She knew which words were said the most and she put those words on her favorite candies.

On Sunday my family came down for our traditional Conference activities.  I’m pretty sure that Emma gets the good note-taking example from her awesome aunts.

Grace took a little bit of a break from her tent for some coloring with Daddy.

Between sessions we played Don’t Eat the General Authority while listening to this catchy tune (check it out, it’s pretty good!).  Tenley was a good sport to play several games with Isaac and Grace.

And more importantly we ate our yummy Conference Brunch.  We all look forward to Conference Casserole and Conference Crepes.

General Conference April 2012 (16)

We enjoyed the last session of General Conference together after we ate.  All of the talks were wonderful and timely, as usual.  A couple of our favorite talks were by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf (to only name a few).  It was a spiritually uplifting and recharging weekend.

We ended the weekend with a few laughs though.  I couldn’t let April Fool’s Day go by without a couple tricks.  It was pretty funny watching Isaac and Grace try to drink their “juice” at dinner that night.

Tenley and Emma were smart enough to notice it was Jello, but it still produced a good laugh.

For dessert I sent Emma out to the food storage room to get the pan of brownies I made.  Ha, ha!  It was actually a pan of Brown E’s.

Good thing we were all stuffed so it wasn’t too much of a disappointment!
