Current Evans Events—August 2016

August came fast and went fast.

I love it when Isaac and Grace draw.

Of course we had to hit the library activity featuring Reptile Man.  Isaac and Grace love his presentations.  Even better, Isaac was chosen to help hold the huge python at the end.

We took advantage of the free ice cream float day at A&W.  We ate our floats at the park.

Emma and I accidently twinned for church one Sunday.  People kept pointing it out.  I don’t mind twinning with her!

We woke up one morning to a hot air balloon practically in our back yard.

This was the extent of our Olympics watching.  Pathetic!  The only time we regret that we don’t have cable is during the Olympics.  For some reason we can’t get reception at our house from an antenna either.  So we watched snippets here and there on the internet.  Huge bummer.  We did watch several recorded events at my parents house one night.  The kids loved it.  Next time we will hopefully get it figured out!

Isaac and Grace were invited to the Crum Grandchildren Carnival.  So cute and they loved it.

That same day we went to the Wilsonville Library to redeem the twins’ summer reading charts.  They looked so old while choosing and reading their books.

Grace got to have a swim date at the Tofte pool with her besties.  Joo Lin was in the water, but Stacy and I had a good conversation on the side of the pool.

About five years ago we had a garage sale.  I said we would never have one again.  Well, we we did it again. We had enough big things to get rid of that I thought it would be worth it.

I may have gotten a little teary eyed when the kitchen was sold.  I so remember my little sisters getting it for Christmas a long time ago.  They passed it on to Emma and it got a lot of good use at our house.  My kids are growing up!

Unfortunately I chose the hottest weekend of the year to hold this garage sale.  Thankfully we sold all the big stuff and made enough money the first day that we didn’t have to open the next day.  It was a success, but a hot one.  We WON’T be having a garage sale again.  Hold me to it!

Lee and I went to the temple on a Friday night.  That weekend we were taught beautifully at stake conference about the temple and covenants.  Pres. Leptich invited us to increase our temple attendance and post pictures on social media with the hashtag #ocwewent.  This was our first #ocwewent.

We celebrated Aunt Kaitlin’s birthday.  We love you Kaitlin!

When Tenley was on her mission to Japan Lee kept telling her that he wanted a Samurai sword and he expected her to bring him home one.  Well, she didn’t and it became a joke.  She went back to Japan for a visit and brought him back a Samurai sword…of the umbrella variety!  We got a good laugh out of that.

I don’t mind being stuck in traffic if I have a book with me!

These two pictures made me laugh because they so demonstrate Isaac and Grace’s personalities.  Grace organized her school supplies in a neat pile.

Isaac didn’t.

We finished reading the first Harry Potter book and we celebrated by watching the movie.  It was tricky to find a time when Emma was home to watch it with us, she insisted on being there!  My children are definitely Harry Potter fans.  I like to tell Emma it’s because I read the first few books while I was pregnant with her.

Isaac was dying to spend some saved up money at the Lego store.  He really wanted an army minifig.  He found one that was pretty spendy, but he chose to buy it anyway.  There was a little bit of buyers remorse when he realized all that he could have bought for that same amount, it was a good learning experience.  But he sure likes his army minifig!

I love Sundays.  Especially when Lee is home to enjoy it with us.

Grace got to spend a day at the Gibb’s playing with the Yates girls.  She and Ella set up an art stand and made a few bucks.

The Sunderland’s invited us over for FHE and a movie.  These are terrible pictures, but they capture some of the fun the kids were having together.

We watched Kung Fu Panda 3 on their big screen outside.  For being the end of August it was really cold!  I froze, but it was still fun.

The next night Grace had Seoul, Sydney and Emma over for a lateover.  They watched Dolphin Tale 2 as a follow-up to their last lateover when they watched Dolphin Tale.

Things got a little crazy after the movie.  Girls can get very loud!

Two night later Ella came over for a lateover.

The next day we stopped at the Wilsonville library to pick up a prize Isaac won. He was thrilled that it was Star Wars Legos!  Score!

We also did a lot of school shopping that week.  Ugh.  I wish I liked shopping more.

8-26-16 schools shopping

This picture is to remind me of the funny sock incident when we were shopping.  Emma really wanted to go to the Nike outlet, so we planned one of our shopping days around that.  We got there and she realized she forgot socks and the store was out of the socks for trying on.  I was a little annoyed since Emma knew we were going shoe shopping that day and was looking forward to it.  Then Grace piped up and said she had a pair of socks in her purse!  What?!  She had put them in just in case.  They were a little snug for Emma but they worked!  We weren’t even going shoe shopping for the twins that day, but Grace was prepared!  I was so glad, and so was Emma.

That night Lee and I took Emma and Ashley to the temple.  Joo Lin was nice enough to watch the twins and she took them to an event in downtown Canby.

Then we met her back at the Sunderland’s for a family movie night with lots of friends.  We watched Phineas and Ferb.  This time I was more prepared with socks and blankets, but it ended up being a much warmer night.  More fun and another late night!

The next day was when Lee and I took the twins to the beach.  We hurried back in time for an adult movie night at the Sunderland’s that was also a surprise 40th birthday celebration for Peter.  We were glad to make it back to celebrate with a good friend.  I was fully prepared to sleep through Star Wars since it had been a full day already, but I was pleasantly surprised that I stayed awake!  I also stayed warm.  Emma was still at work so Kaitlyn watched the twins at the Sunderland’s.  Another late night!  I was starting to get ready for the schedule of school at this point.

The night before school started we had a stake AP/YW committee FHE/party at the Isom’s.  Good food, swimming, basketball and super good company made for the perfect end of the summer.  All three of my kids are always happy to go to “No Rules at” Jen’s house. It was a little painful to get up for school the next day though.

The dryer spend a good chunk of August in the garage looking like this while we waited for parts.  So frustrating.

Finally, on the last day of August Isaac got new glasses.  We like these ones so much better, what a handsome dude!

And that was the end of August and of summer.  It was a good one!
