Birthdays, Snow, Parties & Lighting the World

December 4-10, 2016

Eddie started showing up in some crazy places.

My family came down on the first Sunday of December to watch the First Presidency Christmas Devotional and to celebrate Grandma Dorothy’s birthday a little early.  We had yummy soup and homemade bread while we watched the devotional.

I made a new lemon cranberry cake recipe for her.  It was yummy and pretty.  I’m glad Grandma was willing to let me try something new on her!

She’s pretty darn cute for 92!

Eddie seemed to be a little confused about his Christmas roll the next morning.

I took Lanna to La Provence for our traditional breakfast for her birthday.  That Minnesota girl was pretty happy that it started snowing while we were eating!

We even got a slight dusting later that afternoon.

12-5-16 Snow!

Mrs. Johnson posted a picture of Isaac and Grace’s class playing in the snow.  If you look closely you can see my boy in shorts streaking across the field.  He still insisted on wearing shorts every day, even in December.

12-5-16 Snow!

Of course all the snow was gone by the next morning but Eddie made up for it by making his own snowflakes.

The next day Isaac and Grace raided the food storage room for food to donate to the school canned food drive.  The Light the World activity that day was based on feeding the hungry.

I got to go to lunch with my good friend Karen Cook that day.  Her family was moving to Wisconsin so she was released as my YW Camp assistant.  I was so sad to see her go, but so glad that we got to serve together.  She will be a friend that I will cherish for a long time.  I wish I thought to take one last picture of us together! I also cooked a lot of potatoes that day to feed the hungry swim team.

I love helping with those swim team dinners.  I get to see Emma in her swim team element, and at this particular dinner, her yearbook element, too!

We woke up the next day to more snow!  School was canceled.  It was appropriate that Eddie brought “snowballs” for breakfast.

Emma made delicious Andes mint cookies.  My favorite!!

The next day was Grandma Dorothy’s actual birthday.  We had planned on going to the temple and then out to lunch.  Our school was on two hour delay because of the snow so I didn’t get to go to the temple.  I was so sad.  I did make it to lunch and we had such a good time celebrating!

She shared that piece of cake with all of us!

That evening the twins and I helped to light the world by visiting someone who was lonely.  We went to a nursing home and asked if there was someone who would appreciate a visit.  We talked to the nicest lady for a long time in her room.  She loved asking the twins questions and was so pleased with the card Grace made.  It was a good experience.  Too bad Emma is so busy these days, we missed her!

The twins FINALLY opened How the Grinch Stole Christmas that night.  They had been trying to find it since December 1st.

Lee went to ward temple night that same night.  Emma wasn’t going to be home that night but we decided not to get a babysitter since I was supposed to go to the temple earlier that day with Grandma. So I missed out twice.  Sigh.  #ocwewent

Eddie strung lights, and himself, in the twins room the next morning.

We went to the ward Christmas breakfast that morning.

And a basketball game.

There was a loud crash while Isaac was taking a shower after the game.  I went running up there and found an upset little boy and the tile shower shelf broken on the shower floor.

Isaac felt so bad (he had pulled on it while trying to climb up), and was so worried he would be in trouble that he was in tears.  I was more worried that he couldn’ve have been really hurt.  I hate that shower and I really didn’t care about the shelf we don’t even use.  It was kind of funny afterwards.  Isaac will never try to climb in the shower again!

That night Brenna and I threw our annual adult Christmas party.  It was a blast as usual.  I’m sad I don’t have any pictures of the party.  We put together a hot chocolate bar again.  It looked good and tasted good!

Emma had to work so Kaitlyn watched all the kids at our house.  We came home to a bunch of happy kids.

The First Days of December-Light the World

December 1-3, 2016

The beginning of the Christmas season is so exciting!  We were even more excited this year to participate in the Light the World campaign put on by the church.  Each day there was a simple thing we could do to help light the world and remember the Savior.  Eddie came on December 1st.  As usual he showed up in a nativity and brought a note.  He reminded the kids of the true meaning of Christmas and helped to get them excited to light the world.

12-1-16 December 1st (1)

I got started on Christmas cards while the kids were at school.

12-1-16 December 1st (3)

After school the twins helped me make dinner for a family in our ward.

12-1-16 December 1st (4)

They took care of the cookies and tortillas.

12-1-16 December 1st (6)

They were so excited to deliver that meal!  We completely surprised the family and they were happy to have a meal all ready for them on a busy night.

12-1-16 December 1st (7)

It was the perfect way to kick off our quest to light the world.

12-1-16 December 1st (8)

The twins could hardly wait to open the first Christmas book that night.

12-1-16 December 1st (9)

Our first book of the season was The Polar Express.

The next morning silly Eddie thanked the kids for the hot chocolate and playing cards they left out for him.

12-2-16 Eddie

The Light the World activity that day was to honor your parents.  I had fun looking through pictures of me and my parents and remembering how much they love me and all they do for me.

I’m not sure my mom was happy with the one I posted, but I thought it was great!

That evening we went to the Canby Light Up the Night parade and tree lighting.  We just happened to end up next to the Delzer’s.

12-2-16 Light the Night (1)

It’s still a small town event, but the parade gets better every year.  Too bad the sound system for the tree lighting doesn’t…

12-2-16 Light the Night (2)

But we all love it when those lights come on!

This year Dr. Langford’s office had cookies to decorate, so we headed there before going home.

The next day was Scouting for Food and Operation Snuggle at the same time.  Lee had clinicals that day so Djeryd offered to take Isaac Scouting for Food.  You can guess how Isaac felt about that!  He was thrilled!

12-3-16 Scouting for Food

While they did that we went to Operation Snuggle with the Hawkins girls.

This is one of my favorite traditions and I love doing it with my girls.  It’s always so fun to see so many friends there too.

Even the missionaries!

Later that day the twins had a basketball game.  They played agains Gracie’s cute friend Autumn.

After the game Isaac donated his old glasses so he could light the world by helping others to see.

12-3-16 Help others see

That night we did some super secret service.  Hopefully we helped some of our favorite people see how much they are loved by us and our Heavenly Father.

December was off to a good start!
