Good Thing I Like Older Men!

Lee had a birthday last week.  37 looks good on him!

Lee and I went out to dinner on the night of his birthday.  The best part of that evening was being able to leave the kids at home without a babysitter (we stayed close by, in town).  Emma is getting to a good age!  We celebrated the next night with my family.  Lee’s choice for dinner was Chicken Taquitos, which were delicious as usual.  He then got to open a few presents, with a lot of help from the two year olds in the family.

Then he got to go on one of Emma’s famous treasure hunts.

At the end he found a big poster from Emma and two more presents, a GPS and a new pair of running shoes.

I made him two pizookie’s for his birthday, one was chocolate chip and the other was peanut butter with mini peanut butter cups.  Two of Lee’s favorites, cookies with ice cream.  Perfect!

Happy Birthday Lee!  I love you so much, you just keep getting better with age!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

I decided at the last minute that it might be kind of fun to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2nd.  We started off our day by reading The Foot Book.

I tried to get Isaac and Grace to do a little art project that involved their feet and paint, but they would have NOTHING to do with it, even after Emma demonstrated for them.  (Look at her growing feet!  They are almost as big as mine.)

They were happy though to don their Thing 1 and Thing 2 shirts from a couple Halloweens ago.  I was surprised they still fit!  They loved them and called them their “Cat in the Hat shirts”  Gracie told me all day that Isaac was Thing 1 and she was Thing 2.  It was so cute!

Then we read Dr. Suess books, pretty much all day.  I must admit I was sick of Dr. Suess by the time the day was over, and I was definitely skipping pages in those long books.  Isaac and Grace loved it though, and kept bringing them to me, so it was worth it.

We also colored some Dr. Suess pictures.  (Grace is such a ham!)

Emma had Activity Days in the afternoon, so the babies and I headed to a Dr. Suess party at Thriftway.  They had cookies and milk for the kids to eat while they listened to Dr. Suess stories and a puppet show.  Isaac and Grace were thrilled to get their very own Dr. Suess books at the end, and loved the goody bags they got to take home.  This was a much bigger event than when I took Emma when she was little.  It was fun, but a little crazy!

Of course Dr. Suess’ birthday wouldn’t be complete without some green eggs and ham…or bacon. (We had ham in our soup the two nights before and I was sick of it, bacon and ham come from the same place…)   The green eggs made for a very appetizing dinner.  I tried coloring them with spinach but it wasn’t green enough, but then I put too much green food coloring in them! Oh well, the bright green hid the spinach well!

Emma even read Green Eggs and Ham while we ate.

Then we had our very own Cat in the Hat pops for dessert.

Emma and I read “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” before she went to bed.  It was the perfect older kid book and we had fun discussing it.  It was a good day.  It brought back memories from our Dr. Suess themed Halloween.

So, Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!  Thanks for the excuse to have some fun.

A Dusting

The weatherman was forecasting snow for us last week, but you never know if that will actually happen here.  So we were pleasantly surprised to wake up to this:

Emma took full credit for the snowfall since she wore her pajamas inside out and backwards the night before.  Isaac and Grace were in awe of the white stuff since it hasn’t snowed since they could remember.

Even just a little bit of snow is reason to celebrate in Oregon because school is sure to be canceled, which it was.  But the snow is sure to melt very quickly also, which it did.  So, we got out there as quick as we could to take advantage of it. 

Isaac liked the snow and really had fun playing in it.

Gracie did NOT like the snow getting on her boots so she spent most of the time on the perimeter.

The best part of a snow day is having Daddy home for a little while in the morning.  So after Emma taught the babies the art of snowball making….

…the fight began. 

After they got tired of that we moved on to snowman building. 

We had to use up all the snow in our front yard, but we ended up with a cute little snowman.

Isaac and Grace each took a turn holding the snowman’s hand. 

After we got our fill of the snow we headed inside for hot chocolate.  It was such a nice, lazy morning.  I think the babies stayed in their pajamas all that day.  It was great!

We were surprised later in the afternoon to get more snow, just about as much as we had earlier in the morning.  It replenished our supply of snow in the front yard, but didn’t last for long.

There’s nothing better than a snow day…even if it’s only a dusting!

Guys

Gracie recently found Emma’s old Disney characters.  Emma used to spend hours playing with these little figurines.  It looks like Grace will follow suit! 

She calls them her “guys” and puts them in elaborate settings.

She carried them around for quite a while in a little purse and they went all sorts of places with us.  (The poor guys usually had to stay in the car though…)

The only “guy” she won’t play with is Ursula from The Little Mermaid.  Ursula always stays at the bottom of the purse or box.  If we try to get her out Gracie says “No, don’t like!”  She has never seen The Little Mermaid movie, but I guess she knows a villain when she sees one!
