Current Evans Events—May 2015

Grace and Isaac came home from school as pirates on the first day of May.  Pretty cute ones!  I love their teacher, she always does such fun things with them.

The Jensen’s were appalled that our children hadn’t seen Star Wars so they lent us their movies.  All the kids and Lee wanted to watch them together (I am hit and miss with movies, I can’t sit still very well), so it took us a couple months to get through them.  We finally watched the last one in May.  The kids loved them all! (Except for the one we wouldn’t let Isaac and Grace watch.)  Now they talk a lot more knowledgeably about Star Wars and Isaac is dying to see the new one coming out later this year.  Thank you Jensen’s!

The missionaries came over for dinner one night and shared a great message with us about families.  They wanted us to share our feelings about families so they had us put our handprints on this sign, take a picture, then post on Facebook.  This is what I posted with the picture:  How grateful I am to know that my family can be together forever, even after we die. I know that families are part of God's plan for us and the way for us to find joy and happiness in this life. I am grateful for our Savior who made it possible for us to live forever as families. One of my favorite quotes from General Conference in April was from Elder L. Tom Perry: "Family is the center of life, it is the key to eternal happiness". I know that is true! I love this family of mine and I can't imagine not being with them for eternity.

Isaac and Grace love play dates!  Half-day kindergarten is nice for that.

It was determined on Mother’s Day 2015 that Emma is definitely taller than Tenley!

Emma and I went to her Academic Awards night.  She got an award for getting all A’s her freshman year.  Wahoo Emma!

Isaac found the magic of chapter books.  I love his look of concentrated reading.  Nothing better than reading a book on the cozy couch!

I went with the Stake YW Presidency to visit Camp Kilowan as a possible site for 2016 YW Camp.  It was a beautiful camp, and as we were walking around I realized it was where I went for my first year of YW Camp.  Brought back fun memories (and some not so fun memories of the nasty outhouses that are thankfully no longer there).

I don’t think the shooting range was there when I was 12, but we had fun trying it out this time!

Lee took Emma to another outdoor swim meet at Mt. Hood Community College.  It was a little chilly, but she did well.

I helped at the jog-a-thon at school.  Isaac and Grace both loved it.

I’m so glad they have such good friends to run and play with!

Emma had a band concert.  It was her band teacher’s last concert before retiring.  I don’t think Emma was too bummed about that.  :)  This was probably her last band concert too.  Her middle school band experience was better than at the high school.

My dear friend Sharon Falardeau moved to Utah, so we had a lunch for her.  She provided so much service for us over the years.  She was the Relief Society President in our ward for a very long time and she taught me so much.  All of these ladies served with her in the presidency at one point or another.  We will miss her!

Gracie made the cutest hat at a tea party birthday party.  Love this pretty girl!

She also gave a talk and made illustrations for it.  Isaac gave a talk the week before and read it himself.  Grace wasn’t as comfortable doing that in front of people so I suggested she draw pictures to remind herself of the words.  I loved them so much I took a picture!

Isaac knows what to do after church on Sunday!

He also knows he has a good dad who teaches him!

Lee’s allergies were really bothering him, hence the mask.  I’m sure he won’t mind passing off the lawn mowing chores during allergy season!

Grace improved her sewing skills.

Tomika and I were in full GAP swing towards the end of May.  GAP was a real headache this year.  A change in location made things much more difficult for us.  But we were still impressed with all the businesses who are willing to donate.  We started collecting things over a longer period of time because June was going to be so crazy for both of us.  That meant it was stored at my house longer!

The Yates’ came to town again and Isaac and Grace spent some time at the Gibb’s house.  One night Lee, Emma and I went to a graduation party out of town and the twins went to play with Ella and Avery.  We met them at Yogurt Shack on our way back home.

The next day Grace played with Ella while Isaac got to go to work with Dave.  He was in heaven.

Lee finally got sheetrock to cover the hole that we made in the ceiling when there was a leak…back in August.  We sent this picture to Dave to let him know he could come and work his magic with tape, mud and texture after Lee patched.

Isaac started asking for a fried egg and toast every morning for breakfast.  He loves it.  He especially loves it when we let him have some chicken sausage with it.  Lee and I are kind of stingy with the sausage though…

With that, May was done.  Hard to believe we are almost half way through the year. We were getting ready for the end of the school year and for summer to begin!

T-Ball

Isaac and Grace were so excited for another season of t-ball.

First t-ball game 5-5-15 (2)

They were even more excited that Kelley Rice was their coach.  They couldn’t decide though if they should call him Coach Rice, Brother Rice or Kelley though! Their team color was orange.  Kelley is a die hard Beavers fan so we were pretty convinced that he had something to do with the color of the team, but he was adamant that he didn’t.  :)

Go Orange Lions Fire Dragon Hotrods!

Lee and I both missed the first game because of stake meetings we had to be at.   Thankfully we have a teenager who could take them to the game and good friends who took pictures and texted them to us.  (And thanks to Joo Lin for taking most of the pictures in this post!)

Isaac was determined to slide this year.  He “slid” into home base almost every time.

Isaac really enjoyed playing t-ball.  He made me laugh because he insisted on wearing these baseball pants even though they were too big for him.  They didn’t have belt loops though so he was constantly adjusting his belt and pants.  Silly kid.

I love the sweet little smile Grace had on her face every time she hit the ball.  It was almost like she was apologizing to the ball.

We were so lucky to not only get a good coach, but to have lots of friends on the team.  Seoul, Ryan and Adison were all on our team.  That made for happy kids!

Kelley made sure they had consecutive numbers so they could sit by each other.

Of course Lee had to add this joke: Why were 5 & 6 afraid of 7?  Because 7, 8, 9.  That number 7 is too sweet to eat anybody though!  It was a great season and we all had fun.

The best part of t-ball is that we live right by the fields.  Perfect!

Lee and Lynn were assistant coaches.  Well, kind of.  Games were on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Lee could never be there on Tuesdays because of stake meetings.  Lynn had a hard time getting there in time from work.  It usually worked out that there was at least one of them there for a game, but a few times neither of them were.  Poor Kelley had to put up with those absent assistants.  He did just fine.

I got to keep the kids in batting order on the bench.  That was quite the job at times!

At the end of the season the Rice’s hosted a party.
