Scripture Read-A-Thon

May 2, 2016

Emma was behind in her Old Testament reading for Seminary so we decided to have a family scripture read-a-thon to help her out.

It ended up being quite fun!  Grace had chosen a yummy treat for FHE refreshments so we ate that as we each read our own scriptures.

The weather was beautiful and perfect for being outside.

And we were together as a family.

Of course we had to take a few breaks here and there, and Isaac and Grace provided the entertainment.

Emma eventually got caught up and finished her reading.  Wahoo!

Burying the Plates

January 30, 2016

Our ward is putting a big emphasis on the Book of Mormon this year.

1-30-16 Burying the Plates (2)

We buried our own set of ward plates on Bishop Price’s property.  We wrote our testimonies of the Book of Mormon and questions we wanted to have answered as we read from it this year, and they were compiled into the Canby 2nd Ward Plates.

They Young Men made a very authentic box that the plates were buried in, and they were even covered with a big rock.

The kids each got to help shovel dirt on the hole.

For some reason Grace didn’t want to do it, but Isaac was all over it.

We will dig them back up at the end of the year.  I love the Book of Mormon and I’m excited to focus my study on it this year.  We also love our ward family!

Finished!!

We had a big week in our family scripture study.  We finished our study of Preach My Gospel with Emma.  I am sure we will do it again in the coming years, but hopefully it has helped us to want to be better missionaries now and in the future.

Preach My Gospel finished 10-15-13 (2)

The twins and I have been reading the Book of Mormon at breakfast every morning.  We finished it just a few days after we finished Preach My Gospel with Emma.  What an accomplishment for Isaac and Grace!

I loved their interest in the stories and how much they remember and even how well they paid attention during the hard parts.

It felt so good to fill in that last circle on our chart.  A goal accomplished!

I love stumbling upon scenes like this:

Hopefully that love for the scriptures will also continue in the future!

Book of Mormon Reading Chart

We started in January 2012 with this:

New Years FHE 2012 (5)

And ended with this at the end of December:

BOM chart 2012 (3)

We read the “super best parts version” of the Book of Mormon every morning at breakfast.  Isaac and Grace loved it and it gave Emma a little something to think about before school (we read more in depth with her in the evening).

To celebrate, Isaac and Grace chose to have a game night.  The night we were planning on doing it our plans changed and Kaitlin and Tenley came down.  We ended up having a movie night instead.  I don’t think the twins minded!

Battle of the Books-Celestial Edition

Isaac and Grace were so excited to get their very own “real” Books of Mormon in their Easter baskets.  They have been especially happy to take them to church each Sunday.  The excitement hasn’t worn off for Gracie in particular, her book has gone many places with us.  Future sister missionary maybe?

They didn’t waste any time digging into their new scriptures.  They even started their own Battle of the Books.  They called it “Battle of the Books with Jesus”.  Here they are playing a round.  So funny and so cute!

I only hope they continue to study and love the Book of Mormon.  They really like our morning and evening readings and are always asking for Book of Mormon stories.  They are also in love with Scripture Scouts right now.  The rest of us are a little tired of those CD’s, but we can’t say no to such uplifting listening material!  We have to keep reminding Emma that she was just as obsessed with them at their age.  Anyway, it is so fun to see their testimonies of the Book of Mormon start in such simple ways.
